Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo

This week I've chosen a Disney novelty song classic from the film Cinderella written in 1948 by Al Hoffman, Mack David and Jerry Livingston. Verna Felton sang the first version of this popular tune in this 1950 film.  Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo was nominated for an Academy Award in 1950 for Best Original Song but lost out to the still ever popular Mona Lisa

If you listen closely to the melody, it resembles the 1899 Tin Pan Alley Hit Hello My Baby which for me brings to mind the singing animated frog on the Merry Melodies (Bugs Bunny) shows I watched as a kid. Michigan J. Frog as he was called, would burst out of nowhere singing and tap dancing in top hat and cane.

As a huge fan of Louis Armstrong, I have chosen his version of Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo.  His light hearted approach to the tune is upbeat, charming and perfect for my older adult fitness participants. The way he performs this song is really special. Its almost as if you can see hear him smiling as he sings. Awesome trumpet playing as always and the ending is very entertaining! It's classic Louis Armstrong.

Bibbidi-Bobbidi Boo can be found on this recording and originally on The Wonderful World of Louis Armstrong released in 1968.
